红色
It says poison, passion and stop right there. It is the most powerful colour on the planet and it is rife with contradictions. Its universal meanings are heat, blood, danger and emotion.
A red light means that the doctor is in. Red cars are ual status symbols. Red heads are supposed to be firebrands. The devil wears red and so do scarlet women. Those with heart problems are advised to oid the colour because it is so stimulating. Red light has been known to accelerate plant growth.
In China, it is a wedding colour denoting luck and hiness. According to Hebrew tradition the name Adam, the first man means both red and alive. Advertisers love red because it’s a high energy, high impact color; those attracted to it demand to be noticed.
In the past, red dyes were expensive, so red walls and fabrics suggested either luxurious wealth, importance or ill repute. Today careful use can easily suggest an Asian influence. Red’s connection with heat is so strong that it can make you feel warmer even when the temperature hasn’t changed. Too much brings associations with violent emotions leading to impatience, confusion and irritability. Used with caution it can enrich although it does tend to make small rooms even smaller.

The method by which desire for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent, consists of six definite, practical steps, these:
First: fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say "I want plenty of money." Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter.)
Second: determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as "something for nothing.")
Third: establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
Forth: create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are read or not, to put this plan into action.
Fifth: write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
Sixth: read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read--see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.
It is important that you follow the instructions described in these six steps. It is especially important that you observe, and follow the instructions in the sixth paragraph. You may complain that it is impossible for you to "see yourself in possession of money" before you actually he it. Here is where a burning desire will come to you aid. If you truly desire money so keenly that your desire is an obsession, you will he no difficulty in convincing yourself that you will acquire it. The object is to want money, and to become so determined to he it that you convince yourself you will he it.

Scent of a Woman
(S = Lt. Colonel Frank Slade; T = Mr.Trask, the headmaster of Baird School)
S: This is such a crock of shit.
T: Please watch your language, Mr. Slade, you are in the Baird school, not a barracks. Mr. Simms, I will give you one final opportunity to speak up.
S: Mr. Simms doesn?t want it. He doesn't need to be labeled, ?still worthy of being a Baird man.? What the hell is that? What is your motto here Boys, inform on your classmates, se your hide, anything short of that we?re going to burn you at the stake? Well, gentlemen, when the shit hits the fan, some guys run and some guys stay. Here?s Charlie, facing the fire, and there?s George, hiding in big daddy?s pocket. And what are you doing? You?re going to reward George and destroy Charlie.
T: Are you finished Mr. Slade?
S: No, I?m just getting warmed up. I don?t know who went to this place. William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bride, William Tell, whoever. Their spirit is dead, if they ever had one, it?s gone. You are building a rat ship here. A vessel for seagoing snitches. And if you think you?re preparing these minnows for manhood, you better think again. Because I say you are killing the very spirit this institution proclaims it instills. What a sham. What kind of a show are you putting on here today? I mean, the only class in this act is sitting next to me, and I?m here to tell you that this boy?s soul is intact. It?s non-negotiable, and you know how I know? Someone here, and I?m not going to say who, offered to buy. Only Charlie here wasn?t selling.
T: Sir, you?re out of order.
S: I?ll show you out of order! You don?t know what out of order is, Mr. Trask. I?d show you but I?m too old, I?m too tired, I?m too ing blind. If I were the man I was five years ago, I?d take a flame thrower to this place! Out of order, who the hell you think you?re talking to? I?ve been around, you know? There was a time I could see. And I he seen. Boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But that is nothing like the sight of an amputated spirit. There is no prosthetic for that. You think you?re merely sending this splendid, foot soldier back home to Oregon with his tail between his legs? But I say you are executing his soul. And why? Because he?s not a Baird man. Baird men. You hurt this boy, you?re gonna be Baird bums, the lot of you. And Harry, Jimmy, Trent wherever you are out there, you too.
T: Stand down, Mr. Slade.
S: I?m not finished. As I came in here, I heard those words, ?cradle of leadership?. Well when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, and it has fallen here, it has fallen! Makers of men, creators of leaders, be careful what kind of leaders you?re producing here. I don?t know if Charlie?s silence here today is right or wrong, I?m not a judge or jury, but I can tell you this, he won?t sell anybody out to buy his future. And that, my friends, is called integrity. That?s called courage. Now that?s the stuff leaders should be made of.

Teachers Are People
Today, more than ever before, education is playing an important role in the teaching of children. The school has become a vital part of every community, drawing children from every walk of life.
The children are eager to take advantage of its opportunities, emerging from their sheltered confines, dipping easily into the habits of the student. They are coming from far and near, struggling towards an education, whetting their etites for knowledge, forming friendships for the future. Childish energy lets nothing stand in its way. In their tiny hands, they hold the future.
The person upon whose capable shoulders rests the responsibility for their education is that unsung hero, the teacher. He must be fair, honest, understanding, and intelligent. He must handle every situation with the utmost dignity. With a complete understanding of his pupils, the experienced teacher equips himself for the classroom. The students eagerly return to the classroom. Youthful minds are encouraged to develop their latent talents. Ah, yes, the creative outlets of the arts and the crafts. Tests and examinations fill out the day, as bright little minds gather knowledge form their teacher. But the little hands make the time pass quickly.
Contrary to popular belief, the teacher?s work is not through at the end of the school day. Oh, no. There?re many unfinished chores -- blackboards to be cleaned, erasers dusted, and of course the ever-present parent-teacher relationship. So it?s to this great profession and its halls of learning that we dedicate this. When the occasion arises, there?re times when disciplinary actions must be taken.

Marriage Partnerships
Traditionally, the woman has held a low position in marriage partnerships.
While her hu *** and went his way she had to wash, stitch and sew.
Today the move is to liberate the woman, which may in the end strengthen the marriage union.
Perhaps the greatest obstacle to friendship in marriage is the amount a couple usually see ofeach other.
Friendship in its usual sense is not tested by the strain of daily, year-long cohabitation.
Couples need to take up separate interests as well as mutually shared ones,if they are not to get used to the more attractive elements of each other's personalities.
Married couples are likely to exert themselves for guests—being amusing, discussing withpassion and point—and then to fall into dull exhausted silence when the guests he gone.
As in all friendship,a hu *** and and wife must try to interest each other, and to spend sufficient time sharing absorbing activities to give them continuing mon interests.
But at the same time they must spend enough time on separate interests with separate people to preserve and develop their separate personalities and keep their relationship fresh.
For too many highly intelligent working women, home represents chore obligations, because the hu *** and only tolerates her work and does not participate in household chores.
For too many highly intelligent working men, home represents dullness and plaints—from an over-dependent wife who will not gather courage to make her own life.
In such an atmosphere, the partners grow further and further apart, both love and liking disearing.
For too many couples with children, the children are allowed to mand all time and attention, allowing the couple no time to develop liking and friendship,as well as love, allotting them exclusive parental roles.
Love, Grows in Marriage
Social scientists he observed that marriages typically move through a series of at least four stages. Each stage presents unique learning opportunities and blessings, along with challenges and obstacles.
Stage One – Romance, Passion and Promise
In the beginning of a relationship partners often municate effortlessly and at length. They seem to intuit each other’s needs and wishes and go out of their way to please and surprise each other. Couples begin to develop a strong sense of “we.”
Individual differences are minimized, if noticed at all; partners are very accepting. Joy, excitement, hiness and hope abound.
Partners present and elicit their best selves. Life seems promising. It is a time of sharing dreams and romance. This is a time to be remembered and cherished.
Stage Two – Settling down and Realization
The high energy and intensity of Stage One inevitably give way to the ordinary and routine.
Ideally, in Stage Two couples learn to deepen their munication skills. They work to understand and express their wants, needs, and feelings.
They learn to be honest and vulnerable and to listen actively to each other.
They bee aware of differences not noticed previously and develop strategies for dealing with them. Couples learn about give and take, negotiation and acmodation.
Stage Three – Rebellion and Power Struggles
Spouses cannot always live up to each other’s expectations. They will disoint and unintentionally hurt each other.
They now bee intensely aware of their differences and may use control strategies to bring back the desired balance.
Power struggles are mon. Blame, judgment, critici *** and defensiveness are likely outes.
Fear and anxiety enter the relationship. Couples’ thinking can narrow into right/wrong, good/bad polarities.
Ideally, couples learn about forgiveness and acmodation in this stage. They learn to deal constructively with anger and hurt. A supportive munity bees especially important.
Stage Four – Discovery, Reconciliation, and Beginning Again
Couples can push through the previous stage through deepened munication, honesty and trust.
Ideally, they discover and create a new sense of connection. They learn more about each other’s strengths and vulnerabilities.
They learn to identify and talk about their fears instead of acting them out. They refuse to judge or blame their partner; they translate their plaints into requests for change.
Partners see each other in a new light, as gifted and flawed, just as they themselves are gifted and flawed. Empathy and passion increase. They learn to reciate and respect each other in new ways; they learn not to take each other for granted.
They find a new balance of separateness and togetherness, independence and intimacy. A new hope and energy return to the relationship.
Additional Challenges and Stages
Many couples will encounter additional life cycle stages. Just like marriage, creating a family will face many challenges.
It is another opportunity to learn about cooperation and being a team, about dealing with differences and conflicts, and about taking time to pause and choose.
Parenting is a spiritual journey that involves not only the growth of the children but the growth of the parents. Like marriage, it will he many opportunities to surrender and die to self, to let go and to grieve.
Other life cycle challenges include illness, unemployment and other financial crises, retirement, and the death of one’s partner. Many couples must take care of the older generation while letting go of the younger one.
Growth throughout the marital journey requires openness and flexibility. Faith requires trust and surrender. Even if we cannot see the entire road and where it will end, we need to he clarity to take the next few steps.

Interestingly, for couples hing mon interests, one can guide the other in times of difficulty or confusion. One can play the role of an expert and deliver good advice at times of need because of their earlier experiences on the subject, which is quite mon for people with mon interests.
This however, will also make the partners dependent on each other or in another sense respect each other for their support, which in turn gives rise to the feeling of being patible with each other. One can also learn from the mistakes of the other. These traits are very essential for enduring relationships with the partners assisting each other in times of trouble with solutions they really know about.
8. They he a long-lasting relationship.
The couples sharing mon interests understand each other’s troubles better, always he something to share with each other and get to spend lots of time together, all of which we he already discussed in the article.
Interestingly, these characteristics lead to a much stronger bond because both the partners feel connected, attracted and loving towards each other exactly because of their mon interests.
These traits really help in making the relation more beautiful and lasting for a longer time. With many things in mon and a better understanding of each other, the partners love spending more time with each other. This helps them create a life-long bond.

Love of a Life timeOnce upon a time a teacher and his student lay down under the big tree near the big grass area.
Then suddenly the student asked the teacher.
Teacher, I’m confused, how do we find our soul mate?
Can you please help me?”
Silent for a few seconds, the teacher then answered, “Well, it’s a pretty hard and an easy question.”
The teacher continued, “Look that way, there is a lot of grass, why don’t you walk there?
Please don’t walk backwards, just walk straight ahead.
On your way, try to find a blade of beautiful grass and pick it up and then give it to me. But just one.”
The student said, “Well, OK then... wait for me...” and walked straight ahead to the grassy field.
A few minutes later the student came back.
The teacher asked, “Well, I don’t see a beautiful blade of grass in your hand.”
The student said, “On my journey, I found quite a few beautiful blade of grass,
but I thought that I would find a better one, so I didn’t pick it.
But I didn’t realize that I was at the end of the field, and I hadn’t picked any because you told me not to go back, so I didn’t go back.”
The teacher said, “That’s what will hen in real life.”
What is the message of this story?
In the story, grass is the people around you, the beautiful blade of grass is the people that attract you and the grassy field is time.
In looking for your soul mate, please don’t always pare and hope that there will be a better one.
By doing that, you’ll waste your lifetime, cause remember “Time Never Goes Back”.

篇三
Did the Earth Move for YouEleven-year-old Angela was stricken with a debilitating disease involving her nervous system.
She was unable to walk and her movement was restricted in other ways as well.
The doctors did not hold out much hope of her ever recovering from this illness.
They predicted she’d spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
They said that few, if any, were able to e back to normal after contracting this disease.
The little girl was undaunted.
There, lying in her hospital bed, she would vow to anyone who’d listen that she was definitely going to be walking again someday.
She was transferred to a specialized rehabilitation hospital in the San Francisco Bay area.
Whatever therapies could be lied to her case were used.
The therapists were charmed by her undefeatable spirit.
They taught her about imaging — about seeing herself walking.
If it would do nothing else, it would at least give her hope and something positive to do in the long waking hours in bed.
Angela would work as hard as possible in physical therapy, in whirlpools and in exercise sessions.
But she worked just as hard lying there faithfully doing her imaging, visualizing herself moving, moving, moving!
One day, as she was using all her might to imagine her legs moving again, it seemed as though one miracle had hened:
The bed moved! She screamed out, “Look what I’m doing! Look! Look! I can do it! I moved, I moved!”
Of course, at this very moment everyone else in the hospital was screaming, too, and running for cover.
People were screaming, equipment was falling and glass was breaking.
You see, it was the recent San Francisco earthquake.
But don’t tell that to Angela.
She’s convinced that she did it.
And now only a few years later, she’s back in school.
You see, anyone who can shake the earth between San Francisco and Oakland can conquer a piddling little disease, can’t they?

Just two for breakfast
When my husband and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary at our forite restaurant, Lenny, the piano player, asked, "How did you do it?"
I knew there was no simple answer, but as the weekend roached, I wondered if one reason might be our ritual of breakfast in bed every Saturday and Sunday.
It all started with the breakfast tray my mother ge us as a wedding gift. It had a glass top and slatted wooden side pockets for the morning paper the kind you used to see in the movies. Mother loved her movies, and although she rarely had breakfast in bed, she held high hopes for her daughter. My adoring bridegroom took the message to heart.
Feeling guilty, I suggested we take turns. Despite grumblings -- "hate crumbs in my bed" ---Sunday morning found my spouse eagerly awaiting his tray. Soon these weekend breakfasts became such a part of our lives that I never even thought about them. I only knew we treasured this separate, blissful time read, relax, forget the things we should remember.
Sifting through the years, I recalled how our weekends changed, but that we still preserved the ritual. We started our family (as new parents, we slept after breakfast more than we read), but we always found our way back to where we started, just two for breakfast, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
When we had more time, my tray became more festive. First it was fruit slices placed in geometric pattern; then came flowers from our garden .This arranger of mine had developed a flair for decorating, using everything from amaryllis to the buds of a maple tree. My husband said my cooking inspired him. Mother would he roved. Perhaps it was the Saturday when the big strawberry wore a daisy hat that I began to think, how can I top this? One dark winter night I woke with a vision of a snowman on a tray. That Sunday I scooped a handful of snow and in no time had my man made. With a flourish I put a miniature pinecone on his head.
As I delivered the tray, complete with a nicely frozen snowman, I waited for a reaction. There was none but as I headed down the stairs I heard a whoop of laughter and then, "You've won! Yes, sir, you've won the prize!"
Put time where love is 舍得为爱付出时间
During my 25 years as a marital therapist, I he seen hundreds of people disointed over unfulfilling relationships. I he seen passion turn to poison. I he grieved with patients for the love they lost or never found.
"We seemed to love so much, but now it's gone," one woman lamented to me. "Why do I feel so lonely every night even when he is right there beside me? Why can't marriage be more than this?"
It can. I was once invited to the 60th-anniversary celebration of a remarkable couple. I asked the husband, Peter, if he ever felt lonely and wondered where the love between him and Lita had gone. Peter laughed and said, "If you wonder where your love went, you forgot that you are the one who makes it. Love is not out there; it's in here between Lita and me."
I know we can love deeply, tenderly and lastingly. I he seen such love, and I he felt such love myself. Here are the law I he discovered for such lasting and loving relationships---put time where love is.
A fulfilling marriage begins when two people make time together their No.1 priority. If we hope to find love, we must first find time for loving.
Unfortunately, current psychology rests on the model of the independent ego. To make a lasting marriage we he to overcome self-centeredness. We must go beyond what psychologist Abraham Maslow called "self-actualization" to "us-actualization". We he to learn to put time where love is.
Many couples he experienced a tragic moment that taught them to value their time together. One husband related how he sat tred in his car after a crash. His wife was outside, crying and banging on the window. "I thought I was going to die before we had enough time together." He told me. "Right then I promised to make the time to love my wife. Our time is our own now, and those hours are sacred."
I am nature's greatest miracle.
Although I am of the animal kingdom, animal rewards alone will not satisfy me. Within me burns a flame, which has been passed from generations uncounted and its heat is a constant irritation to my spirit to become better than I am, and I will. I will fan this flame of dissatisfaction and proclaim my uniqueness to the world.
None can duplicate my brush strokes, none can make my chisel marks, none can duplicate my handwriting, none can produce my child, and, in truth, none has the ability to sell exactly as I. Henceforth, I will capitalize on this difference for it is an asset to be promoted to the fullest.
I am nature's greatest miracle.
Vain attempts to imitate others no longer will I make. Instead will I place my uniqueness on display in the market place. I will proclaim it, yea, I will sell it. I will begin now to accent my differences; hide my similarities. So too will I ly this principle to the goods I sell. Salesman and goods, different from all others, and proud of the difference.
I am a unique creature of nature.
I am rare, and there is value in all rarity; therefore, I am valuable. I am the end product of thousands of years of evolution; therefore, I am better equipped in both mind and body than all the emperors and wise men who preceded me.
But my skills, my mind, my heart, and my body will stagnate, rot, and die lest I put them to good use. I he unlimited potential. Only a small portion of my brain do I employ; only a paltry amount of my muscles do I flex. A hundredfold or more can I increase my accomplishments of yesterday and this I will do, beginning today.
Nevermore will I be satisfied with yesterday's accomplishments nor will I indulge, anymore, in self-praise for deeds which in reality are too small to even acknowledge. I can accomplish far more than I he, and I will, for why should the miracle which produced me end with my birth? Why can I not extend that miracle to my deeds of today?
I am nature's greatest miracle.
I am not on this earth by chance. I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I ly all my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.
I will increase my knowledge of mankind, myself, and the goods I sell, thus my sales will multiply. I will practice, and improve, and polish the words I utter to sell my goods, for this is the foundation on which I will build my career and never will I forget that many he attained great wealth and success with only one sales talk, delivered with excellence. Also will I seek constantly to improve my manners and graces, for they are the sugar to which all are attracted.
I am nature's greatest miracle.
I will concentrate my energy on the challenge of the moment and my actions will help me forget all else. The problems of my home will be left in my home. I will think naught of my family when I am in the market place for this will cloud my thoughts. So too will the problems of the market place be left in the market place and I will think naught of my profession when I am in my home for this will dampen my love.
There is no room in the market place for my family, nor is there room in my home for the market. Each I will divorce from the other and thus will I remain wedded to both. Separate must they remain or my career will die. This is a paradox of the ages.
I am nature's greatest miracle.
I he been given eyes to see and a mind to think and now I know a great secret of life for I perceive, at last, that all my problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise. I will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear for mine eyes are open. I will look beyond the cloth and I will not be deceived.
I am nature's greatest miracle.
No beast, no plant, no wind, no rain, no rock, no lake had the same beginning as I, for I was conceived in love and brought forth with a purpose. In the past I he not considered this fact but it will henceforth shape and guide my life.
I am nature's greatest miracle.
And nature knows not defeat. Eventually, she emerges victorious and so will I, and with each victory the next struggle becomes less difficult.
I will win, and I will become a great salesman, for I am unique.
I am nature's greatest miracle.

Americans he any morals
Do Americans he any morals? That's a good question. Many people insist that ideas about right and wrong are merely personal opinions. Some voices, though, are calling Americans back to traditional moral values. William J. Bennett, former U.S. Secretary of Education, edited The Book of Virtues in 1993 to do just that. Bennett suggests that great moral stories can build character. The success of Bennett's book shows that many Americans still believe in moral values. But what are they?
To begin with, moral values in America are like those in any culture. In fact, many aspects of morality are universal. But the stories and traditions that teach them are unique to each culture. Not only that, but culture influences how people show these virtues.
One of the most basic moral values for Americans is honesty. The well-known legend about George Washington and the cherry tree teaches this value clearly. Little George cut down his father's forite cherry tree while trying out his new hatchet. When his father asked him about it, George said, ?I cannot tell a lie. I did it with my hatchet.? Instead of punishment, George received praise for telling the truth. Sometimes American honesty-being open and direct-can offend people. But Americans still believe that ?honesty is the best policy.?
Another virtue Americans respect is perseverance. Remember Aesop's fable about the turtle and the rabbit that had a race? The rabbit thought he could win easily, so he took a nap. But the turtle finally won because he did not give up. Another story tells of a little train that had to climb a steep hill. The hill was so steep that the little train had a hard time trying to get over it. But the train just kept pulling, all the while saying, ?I think I can, I think I can.? At last, the train was over the top of the hill. ?I thought I could, I thought I could,? chugged the hy little train.
Compassion may be the queen of American virtues. The story of ?The Good Samaritan? from the Bible describes a man who showed compassion. On his way to a certain city, a Samaritan man found a poor treler lying on the road. The treler had been beaten and robbed. The kind Samaritan, instead of just passing by, stopped to help this person in need. Compassion can even turn into a positive cycle. In fall 1992, people in Iowa sent truckloads of water to help Floridians hit by a hurricane. The next summer, during the Midwest flooding, Florida returned the for. In less dramatic ways, millions of Americans are quietly passing along the kindnesses shown to them.
In no way can this brief description cover all the moral values honored by Americans. Courage, responsibility, loyalty, gratitude and many others could be discussed. In fact, Bennett's bestseller-over 800 pages-highlights just 10 virtues. Even Bennett admits that he has only scratched the surface. But no matter how long or short the list, moral values are invaluable. They are the foundation of American culture-and any culture.
