King Xuan was fond of shooting an arrow and liked to be boasted as a powerful bowman he was, although he could draw no bow heier than thirty jin, When he showed is bow to his attendants, they pretended to try to draw it, but only bent it to half its full extent.

“This must weigh at least ninety jin!” They all cried. “None but your duanwenw Majesty could use such a bow.” And at this the prince was pleased.

Though he only used a thirty-jin bow, till the end of his life he believed that it weighed ninety, It was thirty in fact, and ninety only in name, but for the sake of the empty name he sacrificed the truth.

Two knots

A countryman from the state of Lu sent to king Song Yuangong two knots that were difficult to untie.

The king posted a notice to find people with wisdom to undo the knots, but nobody could undo them.

Later one of Er Shou’s students untied one of them but could not undo the other one. The king sent people to check what he said with the countryman from Lu.

The man from Lu said, “He is right. This knot cannot be untied. It was not him that tied this knot. And he can tell that this knot cannot be untied. He surely is more clever than I am.”

Long long ago, there lived a famous beauty, named Xi Shi. Since she suffered from heartburn, she would often frown in front of all neighbours.

An ugly girl, named Dong Shi, lived in the same village. She noticed this and thought it very duanwenw charming, and also put her hands to her breast and frowned in front of everyone. When the rich saw her, they rclosed their doors and would not e out. As of the poor, they ran away, taking their wives and children.

Poor thing! She could admire Xi Shi’s frown, but did not know why it was beautiful.

《Julius Caesar》Shakespeare

There is a tide in the affairs of men

Which , taken at the flood , leads on to fortune ;

Omitted , all the voyage of their life

Is bound in shallows and in miseries .

把握涨潮,则万事无阻;

The Cherry Tree

When Gee was about six years old, he was made the wealthy master of a hatchet of which, like most little boys, he was extremely fond. He went about chopping everything that came his way.

One day, as he wandered about the garden amusing himself by hacking his mother's pea sticks, he found a beautiful, young English cherry tree, of which his father was most proud. He tried the edge of his hatchet on the trunk of the tree and barked it so that it died.

Some time after this, his father discovered what had hened to his forite tree. He came into the house in great anger, and demanded to know who the mischievous person was who had cut away the bark. Nobody could tell him anything about it.

Just then Gee, with his little hatchet, came into the room.

"Gee,'' said his father, "do you know who has killed my beautiful little cherry tree yonder in the garden? I would not he taken five guineas for it!''

This was a hard question to answer, and for a moment Gee was staggered by it, but quickly recovering himself he cried:

"I cannot tell a lie, father, you know I cannot tell a lie! I did cut it with my little hatchet.''

The anger died out of his father's face, and taking the boy tenderly in his arms, he said:

"My son, that you should not be afraid to tell the truth is more to me than a thousand trees! Yes - though they were blossomed with silver and had lees of the purest gold!''

1:Look Within to Find Hiness

How often do you hear people say "I will be hy when ..."such as "When I get that thing, I will be hy," "I will be hy when I pass the exam" and "I would be hy if I had more money". I he heard these things before and I am sure that I will hear them again.

Many people want to believe that finding hiness is all about finding or getting something that they want. However, not many people he ever found long-term hiness by achieving a goal. There will always be another thing that they want. There will always be another exam or another dollar.

To break this vicious cycle, we must find our hiness somewhere else —within ourselves. In other words, hiness is pletely an inside job. The key to finding hiness is to understand that hiness is a choice rather than the result of an experience. We he been given duanwenw everything

We need to be hy. Allow yourself to choose hiness. If life was perfect, would you be hy? Life is perfect because we create it with our choices. Since we can create life, we can create hiness and choose how much better our lives can get!

Only when we can accept that life is perfect as it is, and that our lives are the sum total of everything that has hened up to this moment, can we accept the joy and the hiness we deserve.

3:Each time something in our life ends

Each time something in our life ends, it creates room for a new experience.

Within each new experience is a stepping-stone. Some are *** all stones and others are big ones. Some are fun and some are tiring, but with each passing day we learn why we are here, what our duty is, and why different people e in and out of our lives.

How did we attract them into our lives? How did they bring us into their reality and why? Each step is part of the journey of finding out who we really are, why we were brought here, and why we go through pain sometimes.

We must first work on the inside and the outside will follow. Think about it. What is truly your life’s duty? Do everything you can to do it. It’s a journey. duanwenw Take the adventure.

You he gone through many rough periods in your life, and many wonderful times too. You he helped people through their rough periods. You know what to do.

You keep on getting right to the finish line and then you stop. Keep going this time. Cross that line. duanwenw You are deserving and capable. Sometimes if we just work on removing anger, everything else will flow.

You are loved, dear one. This is the beginning of a beautiful future. Someone loves you and will be there for you. Always remember that we are never alone!

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”

~ John F. Kennedy

The one constant thing in our life is change. We cannot oid it and the more we resist change the tougher our life becomes. Trust me, I know this because I was very skilled at deflecting change in my life.

We are surrounded by change and it is the one thing that has the most dramatic impact on our lives. Change has the ability to catch up with you at some point in your life. There is no oiding it because it will find you, challenge you, and force you to reconsider how you live your life.

Change can come into our lives as a result of a crisis, as a result of choice or by chance. In either situation we are all faced with hing to make a choice – do we make the change or not? I believe it is always better to make changes in your life when you choose to rather than being forced to.

We however cannot oid the unexpected events (crisis) in our lives because it is these events that challenge our complacency in life. What we can control when we are experiencing these challenging events, is how we choose to respond to them. It is our power of choice that enables us to activate positive change in our lives.

:Of Harmony

It is my temper, and I like it the better, to affect all harmony: and sure there is musick even in the beauty, and the silent note which Cupid strikes, far sweeter than the sound of an instrument. For there is a musick where ever there is a harmony, order, or proportion: and thus far we may maintain the music of the Sphears; for those well-ordered motions, and regular paces, though they give no sound unto the ear, yet to the understanding they strike a note most full of harmony. Whatsoever is harmonically posed delights in harmony; which makes me much distrust the symmetry of those heads which declaim against all Church-Musick. For my self, not only for my obedience, but my particular Genius, I do embrace it: for even that vulgar and Tern-Musick, which makes one man merry, another mad, strikes in me a deep fit of devotion, and a profound contemplation of the First poser. There is something in it of Divinity more than the ear discovers: it is an Hieroglyphical and shadowed lesson of the whole World, and creatures of GOD; such a melody to the ear, as the whole World, well understood, would afford the understanding. In brief, it is a sensible fit of that harmony which intellectually sounds in the ears of GOD.

:Pressure

Pressure es from being unprepared there is no substitute for preparation, practice and hard work. Desire and wishful thinking won’t do it. Only preparation will give you the petitive edge.

Pressure can paralyze when a person is not prepared. Just like water gritates to its own path, duanwenw success gritates to those who are prepared. Weak effort gets weak results.

Maybe it’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it. But it’s also two that we don’t know what we he been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don’t expect love in return! But if it dose not be content it grows in yours. It takes an hour to like someone and a day to love someone, but it takes a life time to forget someone.

Don’t rely on one’s earance, it can deceive. Don’t rely on wealth, even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you *** ile, because it takes only a *** ile to make a dark day bright. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be.

May you he enough hiness to make you sweet; enough tries to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human; enough hope to make you hy.

Always put yourself in other’s shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts others too. The hy people don’t necessarily he the best everything; they just make the most of everything that es along their way. Hiness waits for who cry; those who he searched; and those who he tried; for only they can reciate the hiness of people who he touched their lives.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You con not go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was *** iling. Live you life so that when you die, you are the one who is *** iling and everyone around you is crying.

The man who is aware of himself is henceforth independent; and he is never bored, and life is only too short, and he is steeped through and through with profound yet temperate hiness. He alone lives, while other people, sles of ceremony, let life slip past time in a kind of dream. Once conform, once do what other people do finer than they do it, and a lethargy steals over all the finer nerves and faculties of the soul, He bees all outer show and inward emptiness; ll, callous, and indifferent.

The Old Cat

An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.

Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, "Do not hit your old servant. I he worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young."

(The Dog and the Shadow)

It hened that a Dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now, on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to he that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more.

The Fox and the Grapes

One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench my thirst," quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."

(One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard),看到一串熟透的葡萄沿著藤蔓高挂在上 (till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch.)。 他这麼说著 ("Just the thing to quench my thirst," quoth he)。 (Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump),可惜没构到那串葡萄 (and just missed the bunch),往后再退了几步,一、二、三,往上一跳 (Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up),还是没有构到那串葡萄 (but with no greater success.)。 (Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel),可最后还是放弃了(but at last had to give it up),最后离开,鼻子嗅了嗅说 (and walked away with his nose in the air, saying):「葡萄太酸了 ("I am sure they are sour.")。」

The moral is that:It is easy to despise what you cannot get.

1、The Lion, The Bear And The Fox(狮子、熊与狐狸)Long ago a lion and a bear saw a kid. They sprang upon it at the same time. The lion said to the bear, “I caught this kid first, and so this is mine.”

"No, no," said the bear.“I found it earlier than you, so this is mine.” And they fought long and fiercely. At last both of them got very tired and could no longer fight.

A fox who hid himself behind a tree not far away and was watching the fight between the lion and the bear, came out and walked in between them, and ran off with the kid.

The lion and the bear both saw the fox, but they could not even catch the fox.

The lion said to the bear, “We he fought for nothing. That sly fox has got the kid away.”

2、The Boys And The Frogs(男孩与青蛙)One spring day some naughty boys were playing near a pond. They began to throw stones into the water. In the pond lived many frogs were much afraid of the boys, for the stones hurt some of the frogs.

At last an old frog lifted his head out of the water and said, “Boys, please don’t throw stones at us.”

The boys said, “We are only playing.” “I know that, but please stop throwing stones, my boys. What is play to you is death to us,” said the old frog.

So the boys stopped throwing stones and went away.

3、Ye Gong was well-known for his fondness for dragons: In the house where he lived, dragons were painted on the walls and carved on the pillars and the four walls of his bedroom.

There were dragons everywhere, up and down, front and back, with each dragon baring its teeth and brandishing1 its claws.

In the heens there was a real dragon. It was very hy to hear that Ye Gong was so fond of dragons.

One day, the sky suddenly darkened, and then came wind, thunder and rain. The real dragon flew to Ye Gong's home. It poked2 its head into the window in the south and coiled its tail to the window in the north, rocking and rattling3 the whole house.

At the sight of this real dragon, Ye Gong was frightened out of his wits. He trembled all over and hurriedly hid himself.

So it turned out that what Ye Gong liked was painted and carved fake dragons but not real ones.

Zi qin once asked Mohist, "Teacher, it is true that the more you say the more attention you will get from people?"

Mohist answered, "The grog and hop1 toad2 never stop shouting from day to night, but they get little from people. The rooster only sings only for a few minutes in the morning and wakes up all the people. So, it is not necessarily advisable to speak a lot."

It doesn't matte how much you say, what matters is whether you can hit the nail on the head.

God's Coffee A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into plaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leing behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups. Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we he does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us." God brews the coffee, not the cups.......... Enjoy your coffee! Change of habit cannot alter Nature. The Goat and the Goatherd A GOATHERD had sought to bring back a stray goat to his flock. He whistled and sounded his horn in vain; the straggler paid no attention to the summons. At last the Goatherd threw a stone, and breaking its horn, begged the Goat not to tell his master. The Goat replied, "Why, you silly fellow, the horn will speak though I be silent." Do not attempt to hide things which cannot be hid. The Miser 守财奴 A MISER sold all that he had and bought a lump of gold, which he buried in a hole in the ground by the side of an old wall and went to look at daily. One of his workmen observed his frequent visits to the spot and decided to watch his movements. He soon discovered the secret of the hidden treasure, and digging down, came to the lump of gold, and stole it. The Miser, on his next visit, found the hole empty and began to tear his hair and to make loud lamentations. A neighbor, seeing him overe with grief and learning the cause, said, "Pray do not grieve so; but go and take a stone, and place it in the hole, and fancy that the gold is still lying there. It will do you quite the same service; for when the gold was there, you had it not, as you did not make the slightest use of it." The Wolf and the Lamb WOLF, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf's right to eat him. He thus addressed him:"Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf , "You feed in my pasture." "No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I he not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drink of my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me." Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, "Well! I won't remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations." The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny. The Bat and the Weasels A BAT who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free. Shortly afterwards the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice. The Bat assured him that he was not a mouse, but a bat, and thus a second time escaped. It is wise to turn circumstances to good account. The Ass and the Grasshopper AN ASS hing heard some Grasshoppers chirping, was highly enchanted; and, desiring to possess the same charms of melody, demanded what sort of food they lived on to give them such beautiful voices. They replied, "The dew." The Ass resolved that he would live only upon dew, and in a short time died of hunger. The Lion and the Mouse A LION was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face. Rising up angrily, he caught him and was about to kill him, when the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: "If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness." The Lion laughed and let him go. It hened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. The Mouse, recognizing his roar, came and gnawed the rope with his teeth and set him free, exclaiming: "You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you, expecting to receive from me any repayment of your for; now you know that it is possible for even a Mouse to con benefits on a Lion."
